Rotary Evaporator
A rotary evaporator, commonly referred to as a rotovap, is a laboratory device used for gentle and efficient separation of solvents from solutions under reduced pressure and controlled temperature conditions. It consists of a rotating flask (typically round-bottomed) that contains the sample, a heated water bath or oil bath, and a condenser that cools and condenses the evaporated solvent vapor. As the flask rotates, the sample is evenly spread as a thin film on its inner surface, increasing the surface area for efficient evaporation. It is widely used in chemistry, biology, and pharmaceutical laboratories for various applications, including concentration of solutions, purification of substances, and solvent recovery, making it an indispensable tool for sample preparation and research in these fields.
